TCP Plot / Chart Reading

• It takes time and practice to become good
• The best way to learn is to setup a control case to plot and read the facts back out
• Real trace / plot usually behaves differently than book definitions
• Points:
  • Receiver side plot
  • RTO (retransmission timeout) changes over time. The more packet loss, the more RTO increases
  • The gap in the middle of the graph is probably network connection loss
  • The receiver window size is about 24/25
  • Rate of transmit changes as shown in the second half of the graph
